Redact a PDF
Redacting means removing information for good — not just drawing a black box on top, which anyone can lift off in a PDF editor. Redact PDF does it properly: you draw boxes over everything that must disappear, and every page with a box is turned into an image with those areas painted black, so the text underneath is truly gone.
Check the result before you send it: zoom in on each box to make sure it covers everything, including signatures, photos and numbers in headers or footers. Redacted pages become images, so the file may get somewhat larger. Pages without boxes keep their original text.
Use it before sharing bank statements, contracts, medical reports or court papers with names, account numbers or addresses that the reader shouldn't see. Pages without boxes stay as they are, and redacted pages are read with OCR (English) afterwards so the rest of the text stays searchable.
Redaction runs on our secure server. Your file is encrypted on arrival and deleted right after download, never kept longer than 10 minutes.

Questions and answers
Is the content really removed?
Yes. Redacted pages are rebuilt as images with the boxed areas painted black, so the original text and pictures under them no longer exist in the file.
Can I still search the redacted document?
Mostly. Redacted pages are read with English OCR, so the remaining text is searchable again. Other languages on redacted pages aren't recognised yet.
Is my file safe?
Files are encrypted, deleted right after download, and never kept longer than 10 minutes. We never look at, share or keep copies of your files.
What about hidden information like the author name?
