Repair a damaged PDF
Repair PDF tries to recover a file that won't open, opens with errors or shows blank pages. Damage often comes from an interrupted download, a broken USB stick or a program that crashed while saving. Usually the content is still there — it's the file's internal index that's broken.
Signs that a PDF is damaged include messages like the file is corrupted, there was an error opening this document, missing pages, or pages that show up blank in one viewer but not another. A file that was cut off during download can only be recovered up to the point where it ends.
The repair first rebuilds that index. If that isn't enough, the whole file is read and written again from what can still be found. Pages that are truly damaged can't always be saved, but in many cases you get a working PDF back.

Questions and answers
Can every PDF be repaired?
No. If parts of the file are missing or overwritten, those pages can't be brought back. The tool recovers whatever is still readable.
Is my file safe on your server?
Files are encrypted, deleted right after download, and never kept longer than 10 minutes. We never look at, share or keep copies of your files.
How big can the file be?
Up to 100 MB and 500 pages. Processing stops after 2 minutes.
My PDF is password-protected. Can it be repaired?
Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, then repair the unlocked file.
The repaired file still has problems. What now?
Try printing the PDF to a new PDF from your viewer, or convert it to PDF/A, which rewrites the whole document.
